Leaving Home

And they're off! My sister Melanie and I relinquished our hold on our beloved Canada and made the trip half way around the world to Indonesia.

After a tearful goodbye, and an exhausting ten hour flight over the pacific ocean, we made it to Beijing. There we got lost in the airport, slept on a very hard bed in an hourly hotel, had a wonderful mocha from Starbucks and managed to make it to our plane. To say the Beijing airport gave us a headache was an understatement!

While we were happy to leave Beijing we were not looking forward to the next eight hour flight. Luckily we were able to get up and stretch our legs when the plane made an unexpected stop, to us anyway, at the Xiamen airport. That was actually one of the reasons we got lost in Beijing, we were trying to get to the international transfers but because of our pit stop we had to be in domestic transfers. Part of it was also that no one really spoke english and everyone we talked to seemed to contradict the person we talked to last.

In the end though we made it to Jakarta and were ready to start exploring.
